Isabel Oli scared to fall in love again

MANILA, Philippines—A woman’s hunch made Isabel Oli return an engagement ring from her then boyfriend Paolo Contis.
“I was serious about that relationship,” the actress recounted. “In October (last year), on my birthday, we got engaged. But I returned the engagement ring three weeks later because I felt there was something wrong. I told him to just hand it back after he has resolved his personal issues. Sadly, the ring never came back.”
Two months later, Isabel and Paolo ended their three-year relationship. Shortly after that, Paolo admitted he is dating Lian Paz, a member of the group EB Babes.
Isabel said that with the help of family and friends, she is now slowly picking up the pieces. She, however, admitted that the breakup has left her “too scared to fall in love.”
There was news that Pao gave Lian a ring, too. Was it the same ring?
I’ve heard about that, but I’m not sure if it’s the same ring. He said the one he gave me, a family heirloom, was returned to its original owner.
How are you three months after the split?
I feel lonely sometimes. But I’m happy to be single. I can do things I didn’t have time for when I was still with a boyfriend. Recently, I spent four days in Boracay with friends (fellow “Gagambino” co-stars Glyza de Castro, Jenica Garcia and Nadine Samonte).
You were at Paolo’s house recently.
Only to get my dog from his sister. I’ve not seen him since we broke up.
Does your busy schedule help you cope with loneliness?
I had to make major adjustments. It’s good that I turned out okay.
There was a rumor romantically linking you to cager Wesley Gonzales.
There’s nothing going on between Wesley and me. I don’t think I’m ready for anything right now. May guys na nagpaparamdam, but none of them are bold enough to say they’re courting me.
Lian’s group EB Babes is part of the PLDT MyDSL campaign. As its new endorser, are you emotionally prepared to work with her?
I’m not angry at Lian. I’m not sure what my reaction would be if we finally meet. I don’t know her personally and we’ve not been formally introduced. Let’s just wait and see.

Isabel afraid to love again

SHE’S getting there. She’s moving on after her breakup with Paolo Contis. "I’m okey. I’m happy and I’m letting go of our three-year relationship," thus said Isabel Oli in a talk with TEMPO sa launching cum presscon ng PLDT MyDSL na sila ni Rhian Ramos ang bagong model/endorser.

Ayon pa kay Isabel, wala nang pain or bitterness sa separation nila ni Paolo. Although paminsan-minsan daw nalulungkot siya kapag sumasagi sa isip ang nakaraan nila. They haven’t seen each other after they broke up. Pero handa na raw siyang makita si Paolo pati ang bago nitong girlfriend na si Lian Paz.

Possibly soon ay magkikita sina Isabel at Lian dahil kasama ito at ang iba pang EB Babes sa gaga-wing series of events ng PLDT MyDSL kaugnay ng ‘Overdrive Campaign’ nito nationwide.

"Okey lang sa akin na kasama si Lian sa gagawin naming ‘Overdrive’ series. Hindi pa kami nagkikita kahit nagge-guest ako sa ‘Eat Bulaga.’ Hindi kami talaga friends. Walang mali sa nangyari. Nagkataon, na-in love sila ni Paolo sa isa’t isa. Sana happy sila. Sana sila na talaga ang magkatuluyan," said Isabel.

She admitted, engaged-to-be-married na sila ni Paolo October of last year. He gave her an engagement ring. Wala nga lang silang specific date ng kasal. Somewhere along the way, nagkalabuan ang kanilang relasyon. Three weeks after he gave her an engagement ring, she returned it to Paolo. "Masakit na hindi natuloy ’yung kasal namin. Pero tanggap ko na. Talagang gano’n, eh! Kailangang isauli ko ’yung engagement ring dahil bond ’yun, eh!" ani Isabel.

Recycled nga ba ’yung engagement ring na ibinigay ni Paolo kay Lian? "Ewan ko. Hindi ko alam. Hindi ako ang dapat sumagot niyan."

Walang date si Isabel last Valentine’s Day at nanood lang siya ng concert ni Peter Cetera kasama ang ilang kaibigan. Asked kung may na-miss ba siya, "Wala naman. Masaya ako. I’m happy na nagagawa ko na ngayon ang gusto kong gawin na walang iniintinding boyfriend. Nakakapunta ako sa mga lugar na gusto kong puntahan. Like sa Feb. 26, pupunta ako sa Boracay kasama sina Jennica Garcia, Glaiza de Castro at Nadine Samonte. Magge-girl bonding kami at hanggang March 1 kami roon," ani Isabel.

What about basketball player Wesley Gonzales, is he courting her? "No, he’s just a friend. Matagal na kaming magkaibigan. We went out last year pa. Pero isang beses lang ’yon. We don’t go out anymore. Ayoko munang magmahal. Pagod pa ang puso ko. At saka, I’m scared magmahal uli. Gusto ko munang i-treasure at i-enjoy ’yung mga moments ng pagiging single ko," pagtatapos ni Isabel.

ISABEL STILL CLOSE TO PAOLO’S FAMILY

IS Isabel Oli bitter about how her nearly three-year relationship with Paolo Contis ended? “Hindi naman ako bitter,” she says. “As of now, I was able to let go na. Kasi, kahit papaano, I learned something from the experience. I must admit I enjoyed it while it lasted. Hindi naman puro masakit ang nangyari sa’min ni Paolo as we also had good moments together. Maaring hindi naging maganda ang ending at walang formal closure, but one thing I got from it is that it definitely made me stronger.”So is she now ready to get into a new relationship? It’s said she’s about to play beautiful music with a cager.

“No, the cager is just a friend. Honestly, I enjoy being unattached now at kung sakali ngang may bago na akong boyfriend, sasabihin ko naman. I’ll be proud of him. E, kaso nga, wala naman talaga.”What can she say that Paolo’s mom is very vocal in declaring she prefers her over Lian Paz, Paolo’s current? “Siyempre, nakakatuwa. We became close ng family niya so may communication pa rin kami ngayon, especially with his sister-in-law na nakaka-text ko hanggang ngayon. May usapan nga kaming manonood ng Tagalog movie, e. So we’ll date this Valentine season. Baka manood kami ng ‘When I Met U’ kapag wala akong trabaho.

”Has she seen Paolo again since their breakup? “Nakakatawa nga kasi we belong to the same network, pero hindi kami nagkikita. Pero wala namang kaso sa’kin yun. Siguro it’s not just the right time yet. But if ever we’d bump into each other, I wouldn’t hesitate to greet him and say hello. He’s not naman a stranger.”What if Paolo is with Lian? “I’d probably say also hi to her, kahit hindi kami magkakilala. Hindi naman kasalanan kung na-in love si Paolo sa kanya. HIndi naman siya ‘yung reason we broke up. Wala namang may kamalian sa nangyari. Nangyari lang siguro talaga na na-in love sila sa isa’t isa and I guess that cannot be helped. We have all to move on kasi tapos na ‘yung sa’min, at para wala naring masabi ang mga tao.”
